The USMNT have historically had difficulty qualifying for the Olympics, and will appear in their first summer tournament since 2008 when play kicks off at the end of July. The nation is yet to win an Olympic medal on the men's side.

US head coach Mark Mitrovic lamented his team's poor showing after the game, saying: "Since we started this process eight months ago, this was, I would say, the lowest performance by far that we had. I strongly believe that this group can do much better than they showed today."
