West Brom and Dwight Gayle. It’s the relationship that just can’t go away – even despite the Newcastle United forward playing his first full 90 minutes of the season.
The 29-year-old is enamoured for his loan spell at the Hawthorns last season where he notched 24 goals and eight assists on Albion’s way to the playoffs.
And ever since, the club have tried to get him back – firstly in the summer where they were denied by his wage demands as per the Express & Star, and secondly, this January when they saw the former loan star as a possible replacement for Grady Diangana if he were to be recalled by West Ham, via The Athletic.
But even if that gained traction, the Magpies’ valuation was way above their own at £20m plus his wages reported to be £60k-per-week.
It’s clear to see he still has some holding in the west Midlands, though, after three of his former teammates responded to his latest Instagram post…
Kieran Gibbs, Hal Robson-Kanu and Conor Townsend all replied with some sort of affectionate response with the latter calling the picture “class”.
All four players were part of the setup at the Baggies last season and they are clearly still friends, but for fans who were desperate for the club to sign him last month, it appears any future relationship between player and club has firmly set sail and will now be a mere memory.
Who the heck is that?! Can you name all of these obscure West Brom players…
